In the past couple of years, we have seen Hollywood release great horror movies that we can’t just do without talking about. Even in this New Year, the horror movie genre, and even horror video games, have wielded itself with so much force. There have been releases of several breathtaking horror flicks with many more still going to be premiered. It will make one wonder what else to expect—what is worth holding our breaths for and what is not. But from what we have seen in the last couple of years, it is sometimes hard to tell which one blows our minds the most. From all the action-packed thrillers and escape room movies, we have chosen these 3 as our most favorite horror movies.
On the top of the list of our 3 favorite horror films sits the 2016 suspense-packed horror flick, The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Premiered in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the André Vredal directed movie relates the story of two small-town coroners Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch (playing the roles of Father and Son) who attempts an autopsy of the corpse of an unidentified young lady (Jane Doe). In the process, the coroner’s son and his friend (who is assisting him) are drawn into a complex mystery as they realized she was harboring dark secrets before her death. Strange things begin to happen in the autopsy room and they tried to escape. All exits mysteriously lock and they become really desperate from all the horror they witnessed. They were however trapped till the ghost haunted them to death.
Next on our list is the Split. It is a 2016 psychological horror-thriller film. This flick has dominated the box office for weeks. There must be a reason for that. This is the story of 3 abducted girls who are locked in a windowless room by their captor, a blood-curdling superhuman monster who has the ability to exhibit 23 other personalities, but the last one (The Beast) which will subdue the rest is yet unrevealed. The girls go through terrifying ordeals as they try to escape from the horrible creature. Eventually, one of them (Casey) who fought the war for survival was spared by The Beast (whom they were supposed to be sacrificed to). This is an escape room thriller and we love all the suspense.
Get Out made it into our list of favorites. It tells the story of Chris a young black chap on a weekend visit to meet his girlfriend’s parents. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as attempts of being nice to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined. He needs to get out fast! It is both unsettling and hysterical. And we love it!
