Things to do in Chicago
If you looking for things to do in Chicago this weekend, then it’s possible that you’re about to have one of the most unique experiences of your life. However, that’s only if you play it correctly. Sure, you can go see various Chicago attractions like the Cubs or the Bears—depending on the season—but how many times has someone come back from another city and told you they went to a baseball or football game? This is common, and while you might act as though it’s interesting and exciting news in order to be polite, it never really piques your interest. On the other hand, if someone returns from a big city and tells you they went to an escape room, then you might ask with sincere interest, “What’s that?”
If the person you’re speaking to went to the Great Room Escape, then they might tell you about how he and others had one hour to help Houdini’s wife (Bess) contact her beloved husband with one hour … or else! Or, he might tell you that he was trapped in a room where he had to use his brain to solve the puzzles in an escape game or his brain would be eaten (not literally). Another possibility is that he and his family were trapped in a subway car that crashed into an abandoned subway station, but it was intentional and there was a conspiracy afoot. In order to get out alive, they needed to find the clues in order to solve the puzzle. A final possibility is that he and two others entered The Tomb – a 10-20-minute virtual reality escape game, as well as one of the only virtual reality games to be found in Chicago.
With that information at hand, ask yourself this question: Would you be more interested in hearing about the typical bit-city attractions like ballgames, museums, zoos, and aquariums, or would you be more interested in hearing about trying to contact Houdini, escaping a flesh-eating zombie, trying to find a way out of a subway car due to a conspiracy, and a virtual reality tomb? All while still being a perfect family activity in Chicago.
You don’t even need to think about it. This is an easy answer. When it comes to finding a unique weekend activity in the Windy City, an escape room is definitely the way to go. Think about the stories you will have to tell others when you return home. That said, you don’t need to be one of those people that need to show off about your vacation by telling everyone what you did and posting pictures on social media. Okay, so you might do that anyway, but the real value here is experiencing it for yourself. It’s going to be difficult to find a safe adrenaline rush that beats trying to find clues in a room while a flesh-eating zombie is about to break loose so it can enjoy its next meal.
The next time you’re in the Windy City or looking for something to do in Morton Grove, you might want to strongly consider an escape adventure, and Great Room Escape is known as the best of breed.
